Michaelmas & Parent's Day
Friday September 25th
Michaelmas is celebrated in Waldorf Schools throughout the world at the turn of the fall equinox as a festival of courage. The old legends tell of Michael, the bright, strong angel who tames the dragon and inspires courage within us. Into darkness, fear, apathy and depression, Michael wields his sword of light that we may be inspired to face the inner and outer darkness with renewed strength of will and purpose in our lives. Thus, this festival is often celebrated with a story or play of the conquering of the dragon and a feast to give thanks for the harvest.
This year, Parent's Day will take place on the same day as our Michaelmas Festival: Friday, September 25th. Please plan on attending, and welcome any friends and family members to join you who might enjoy experiencing Waldorf Education first-hand. The day starts at 8:15 am with a welcome, followed by classroom visits during Main Lesson, a Parent Welcome talk for and questions and answers, an opportunity to participate in a Campus Care project (come dressed casually!), the Pageant, and culminates with a warm soup lunch and a 12pm dismissal. 8:15 a.m. Welcome  8:30 to 9:30 Main Lesson Visit  9:45 to 10:45 Parent Welcome with AC & Campus Care project

Peas & Carrots Fall Session

Oct 2,2015 - Oct 23,2015 Time: 9:00 am - 11:00 am
Friday in October including 2, 9, 16 and 23 -- The Peas and Carrots Parent-Child Program provides education and resources for parents and their young children from one to three years of age. Together we seek to create a warm, secure and joyful place for young children to play, discover and gradually unfold. Participants come together in an inviting environment that echoes the rhythms and atmosphere of a Waldorf Early Childhood classroom. The class encourages young children to explore and engage in the wonders of the first years of life in group play. They offer parents a place to connect, find a supportive group, discuss and share child development and parenting issues, and to learn about Waldorf education. This class creates safe play spaces that offer children rich opportunities for age-appropriate, self-initiated exploration. Open-ended toys made from natural materials nourish the children’s developing senses, encourage them to employ their creative and imaginative capacities, and further develop their emerging fine-motor skills. Structures that they can move, explore with their whole bodies, crawl over and into—combined with environments that invite movement—help develop their gross-motor coordination. Through quiet observation of the children, and conversations centered on weekly readings on child development, the adults gain greater awareness and trust in their children’s growing interests, motor abilities, social interactions, and problem-solving skills. Their trust strengthens the children’s emerging self-confidence and feeds their growing interest in exploring their world
